If you find yourself pondering these questions recently - did I stick to our investment/ saving plans? What did I do with my money? Did I accumulate the wealth I wanted? You are not alone. Our Commercial manager, Physical Markets, Adeniyi Adenuga has been reflecting on the same thing. In this interview, he talks about his financial journey in 2022 so far, the importance of putting your money to work, and gives insightful tips on taking loans.

What’s the biggest money mistake you made this year?

The biggest money mistake I made this year, was taking a loan to fund a liability! Please and please don’t take a loan if it is not for a business! the math never maths up at the end. So, don’t do it, don’t use a loan for frivolities, and always research properly on the type of business you want to embark on too.

What did you spend money in 2022 that gave you joy?

2022 was a reset financially for me, I’m still recovering from a business loss. Other than that, there was no major spending this year, but I was glad to spend on personal health and food. Try to dey enjoy your money once (Dey chop am sometimes).

What did you spend the most money on in 2022?

Omo! must be food, fuel, and Oga at the top (Madame). Jokes apart, I think the answer to this would be my side hustle, any money that did not enter flenjo, had to go into the business. Profit or loss, the point is to keep the wheel rolling and that’s what I did.

How did you up your money game this year?

I don’t think I got more cash, the cash didn't go up, but I put money in assets that either fetch me something or are steadily increasing in value.

What’s your top money lesson in 2022?

This year more than ever, experience has shown us that everyone needs to work their cash rather than keep it in the bank, keep in the bank only in forex that gains value against the Naira.

What’s the best money lesson you got from your parents?

"Save for Rainy days" it doesn't make sense sometimes, but when life happens...it would be the best advice you ever had because everybody has their own battles.

One thing you’d do right now if you had all the money you wanted?

Honestly want to get on a private Jet to visit some of the most beautiful places in the world! Just feed my eyes the different things earth has to offer and smile while at it.
