For our Vice President, Corporate Services, Mariam Tobun, hitting financial goals for the year also means having a good balance of your professional and personal life. In this article, she shares with us how to balance a 9-5 and enjoyment, highlighting some of the things she wished she had done earlier in 2022.

What’s your top money lesson in 2022?

If I have to recount the several important money lessons that transformed my life and business in 2022, the top of them is to always have money to take advantage of opportunities. There were certain opportunities I missed out on because I hadn’t even a fraction of the money to pursue them.

What did you spend money on in 2022 that gave you joy?

Travel. Spent some time with a friend celebrating this year. To put it mildly, that trip was enjoyable and fun. If I had my way, I would go on more trips like that.

What’s the biggest money mistake you made this year?

This year, mistakes were made. I’ll say my biggest money mistake would be not having enough funds to take advantage of opportunities that came my way. Opportunities come up every day and it is important to have enough money to be able to capitalize on opportunities that come your way in your everyday life unexpectedly.

What did you spend the most money on this year?

I will say food and other household consumables really. Aside from the fact that prices of food went up significantly, I also realized that in this life you must enjoy your own money so my stomach got prioritized well this year.

How did you up your money game this year?

Naturally, I am conservative with risks, but this year, I took risks that keep me in shock to date “am I really the one doing all this?” Some of the risks paid off, while some backfired. But that’s what you get from investing.

One thing you’d do right now if you had all the money you wanted?

Sign me up for more enjoyment!

If I got all the money I wanted, I’d share it in 3 parts, one will go into investments, then I’d travel. I’ve always wanted to see the world with my clique and finally, the last one will go into aiding others.

What’s the best money lesson you got from your parents?

Luckily for me, I got it from my both parents. My dad would always say “spend like you’re still hustling” I understand you work and need to enjoy your money, however, don’t go overboard spending. Prioritize Investment.

I learned by watching my mum, she always buys things in bulk and following this now, I see it saves you from the average buying cost. I’m grateful for the lessons they both instilled in me.
